PREVIEW: Parkers Prairie Wrestling

By Bill Wagner/Kyle Gylsen - Parkers Prairie

A large group of upperclassmen and returning lettermen could make for an exciting season for the 2008-09 Parkers Prairie wrestling team.

Senior captain Jason Arvidson leads the contingent of returning letter winners, which also includes seniors Ethan Cook, Jake DoddsJake Fiedler and Chris Westerberg; juniors Matt BernuRyan HarrisDan Moske, Ryan Silbernick and Tyler Walsh; and sophomores Seth BerceirMatt Froemming, Kevin Hahn, Dylan Lewis, Cambell Rasmusson and Trey Thompson; plus eighth grader Tyler Schlosser.

"The leaders on the team will be the senior group and many of the upper classman as they have all seen lots of action on the varsity," stated Parkers Prairie head coach Bill Wagner.

Also on the Panthers' roster this season will be senior Zach Kerkiedie; junior Blake Lavan; sophomores Chad Knapp, Brett LavanJosh Martinson, Matt Moats and Cambell Rasmusson; freshman Brian Steidl; along with junior high wrestler Mitchell Westerberg.

"The team is pretty well balanced," Wagner explained.  "(We) need some help to fill the lighter, weights, but after 125 pounds the team is pretty solid with lots of returning starters."

Wagner believes the Park Region Conference and Section 6A will both be very competitive this season.

"The PRC is very solid and I expect every team in the conference to place in the top of their respective sections," said Wagner.  "Section 6A is very well balanced.  There is a possibility of eight different teams that could win the section and have a berth to the state tournament."

The Panthers' team goal is to improve on last years 10-13 record.  Parkers Prairie has an opportunity to have a winning season as a team and place some individuals in the state meet.

"This season will be exciting," exclaimed Wagner.

Wagner will be assisted this season by coaches Paul Walsh and Mike Arvidson.
