The Alexandria Cardinals' hopes for a second state girls' hockey title ended with a 10-0 loss to top-ranked and and top-seeded Warroad in the Class A semifinals Friday.
The Warriors skated easily to the victory, with senior Brook Story led the Warriors with five points, including one goal and four assists. Junior teammates Megan Brettingen and Layla Marvin each had two goals. Junior Karley Sylvester, sophomores Hannah Johnson and Madison Egeland and ninth-grader Lisa Marvin rounded out the scoring for Warroad with a goal apiece.
Warroad had 45 shots in this semifinal game, just nine short of tying the record they set last year for most shots in a game. The Cardinals had 11 shots in the first period, but managed just four in the second and two in the third.
Alexandria goaltender Stephanie Drown started in the net and allowed seven goals, while making 31 saves. Lindsey Lien gave up three goals and stopped four shots.
Warroad will meet Breck in the championship game with their goal to improve upon last year’s runner-up finish. The Cards will face South St. Paul in the third place game.
