After suffering their first loss of the year on Tuesday, the Browerville Tigers bounced back to defeat Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 12-2 in six innings on Thursday.
The Tigers scored at least one run in each inning to hand the Raiders their first loss of the season. Bertha-Hewitt and Verndale are in their first season of their combined baseball program.
B-H/V opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers responded with three runs of their own. Browerville then added a pair of runs in each of the second and third innings, and tacked on one more in the bottom of the fourth, before the Raiders would score their second and final run of the game. Browerville scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings to end the contest.
Junior Austin Host earned the win and had three hits at the plate.
Sophomore Mitch Heid also had three hits for the Tigers, while sophomore Chris Buhl, senior Austen Wollenburg and junior Seth Kellen had two hits apiece.
